Ungoliantha - Through The Chaos

UNGOLIANTHA has been around since 1996. Their discography hasn't shown much to write home about over the past two decades, with a live album: "Live in Lisichansk 21.08.99" released in 1999 and a demo released in 2006: "Dedicated to All Demons" and this, their debut full length in 2015. According to their Facebook page, the band's lineup history reads a bit like a soap opera, with members joining and leaving and rejoining, all under the leadership of vocalist/bassist Lord Sinned, who is the only member to stick with the band from the start.

Through "The Chaos, Through Time, Through the Death" is the band's debut full length album, which was released in September 2015. The album was recorded between 2011 and 2012 and was mixed and mastered between 2012 and 2013. The album sat on the shelf for over two years before being released digitally by the band and on CD through Dead Center Productions. It features nine tracks of symphonic black metal with a cover of LICIFUGUM's "Dressed Down by the Fallen Pivot of Life".

The band chose their name from the Ancient Spider Beast, Ungoliant, from J.R.R. Tolkien's book "The Silmarillion". "To the Ultimate Gate" throws itself out with tremendous speed and fury. The main downside is as I don't speak Ukrainian I have no idea what they are saying, but the short outbursts work very well, the melody becomes more melodic black metal tempo, which adds a new depth to the song, the darkness is always present thought the mad vocalist screams. The balance is all over the place but works well for what it seems they are going for.

"Black Essence of Christ" has a up and down balance, one set is at ease, usually where there are no vocals. Ext it seems like Lord Sinned is trying to bite your head off. There is maybe too much variety in this song, but the dark chants help pass it through
