UNDEATH were formed in 2018 and they are from Rochester, New York. It is a traditional Death Metal band and so far they have released two demos, one compilation, one split, one live album, and "It's Time...To Rise From The Grave" is their second full-length album. It was produced and mixed by Scoops Dardaris, and it was mastered by Arthur Rizk (CRYPTA, KREATOR, SOULFLY). The album has a length of more than 35 minutes and it was released by US label Prosthetic Records which has a number of Metalcore, Death Metal, and Black Metal bands among their roster.

UNDEATH are back with their sophomore full-length album, two years after the release of their well-received debut album "Lesions Of A Different Kind". "Lesions Of A Different Kind" was a remarkable album, since UNDEATH combined the traditional Floridian Death Metal with modern elements, which gave UNDEATH ultimately their very own sound. Since then, they added bassist Tommy Wall and guitarist Jared Welch to their line-up. The latter one is an interesting move, since it adds a second guitar to the UNDEATH sound.

UNDEATH continue with their sound from the first album, as the opener "Fiend For Corpses" suggests. It is an old school Death Metal song with aggressive and dark guitar riffing, and the growling vocals are mainly at the low end of the guttural range. "Fiend For Corpses" is mainly a mid-tempo track, but with a break played at breakneck speed, which includes a cool lead guitar solo. "Defiled Again" remains at mid-tempo, the riffing is simple, but pretty effective. Typical for the UNDEATH sound is that the drumming abstains mostly from blast-beats and also the double-bass drums are not used overly extensive. Here, a few double-bass parts are included. "Rise From The Grave" starts a bit faster than mid-tempo with some catchiness in the guitar riffing, but soon returns to mid-tempo for the chorus parts. The lead guitar parts are a bit more dominant in this track and the lead guitar solo is very contributing. All lead guitar solos on the album are pretty short and direct with little complexity and technicality. The textures of "Rise From The Grave" are more complex leading to some twists in rhythm. "Necrobionics" is mainly a mid-tempo head-banger with a lot of double-bass parts included. The sluggish rhythm adds a gloomy atmosphere to the track. While "Enhancing The Death" has a lot of twists in rhythm centered on the classical UNDEATH mid-tempo pace, "Funeral Within" starts at frantic pace and is very direct and brutal in the riffing with hammering drums. There is a mid-tempo break with the typical UNDEATH sound, riffing, and pace.

"Head Splattered In Seven Ways" goes back to the mid-tempo Death Metal assault with a lot of distortions in rhythm and the chugging riffing. It includes a lead guitar solo played at a crazy speed and it is supported by a short blast-beat attack. "Human Chandelier" and "Bone Wrought" are among the few songs at blistering pace for the most parts of the tracks. Both include, not surprisingly, mid-tempo breaks. The pace of the tracks during the second half of the album is definitely faster, and the album closer "Trampled Headstones" also contains a few fast parts, although it is mainly a mid-tempo track. Highlight here is the lead guitar solo.

UNDEATH continue with their old school Death Metal journey and "It's Time...To Rise From The Grave" is a very good album. There are plenty of subtle improvements in the sound of UNDEATH, in particular with the guitars and bass, but also the vocals are better placed. UNDEATH established their own Death Metal sound further, but keep the basis of a muddy, traditional mid-tempo Death Metal sound intact. The songwriting is more mature and benefits from the addition of Tommy Wall and Jared Welch. The album is well produced. "It's Time...To Rise From The Grave" will be loved by traditional Death Metal fans and UNDEATH are on a good way to establish themselves in the Death Metal arena.
