Fire On The Mountain
Twilight Of The Gods

Taking its name from the BATHORY's record, TWILIGHT OF THE GODS was originally a tribute band until they decided to release an album with all-original songs. The band is formed with members that have been in metal's biggest Black Metal acts: Alan Averill, on vocals, of PRIMORDIAL fame, Patrik Lindgren (guitars) of THYRFING and PANTHEON, Rune Eriksen (guitars) of AURA NOIR and MAYHEM, Frode Glesnes (bass), EINHERJER, and Nick Barker (drums), DIMMU BORGIR and not mention having played live with TESTAMENT, EXODUS, GORGOROTH... just to name a few. But contrary to what most would expect they have released in their debut an album sounding more towards early 80's metal, especially that of MANOWAR.
In fact MANOWAR is the closest they resemble in terms of sound and lyrics, with themes ranging from odes to the Heavy Metal life, to songs about wars... but this doesn't mean they are mere copycats, they are doing their own sound here. Their sound relies heavily on the rhythmic section, mainly the bass and drums, at times the guitars become buried and not very audible. In fact the main flaw on this album is the somewhat weak sound of the guitars, but it is not enough to ruin this amazing record.
"Fire On The Mountain" takes a while to get into but when it does you can't get enough. This isn't necessarily the greatest album to come out this year, as it has its flaws, but it's enjoyable and I will definitely be giving it a few more listens. I could see TWILIGHT OF THE GODS improving upon their sound, but this is a solid debut that I highly recommend to any Metalhead out there.
