One more band from Finland. Thank god this time I don't have to face some whiny Goth kids trying to make me want to shoot them because they can't commit suicide by themselves. This time I came across a band that seems to defy the Finnish standards and moves a step further. So, let's see what they have to offer...
Total Devastation released their first work in 1998, a demo called Black Culture. They released four more demos, which led them to sign a contract with Firebox Records. After signing the contract, Total Devastation released their debut album, Roadmap Of Pain, in 2003. One more album, Reclusion, was released in 2005 and featured a guest appearance by Rotten Sound's singer. Wreck is their third album, which is being released through Firebox Records.
Even though my first impression by watching some of the band's photo shootings was that their music would be close to bands like Mastodon, Isis or something more catchy like Hatebreed, I was more than happy to find out that these guys are a Death Metal band! Combining the brutality of Autopsy with the heavy guitars of bands like Entombed and Dismember, Total Devastation produce a very nice Death Metal album that denies to be stuck in the classic paths. Enriched with incredible post Hardcore melodies, Wreck is Total Devastation's step further. Their sound seems evolved and the band much more mature. Is it their time? They have the balls to do something really good. Much better than this! Wreck is only the beginning of a new era for Total Devastation. It's up to them to prove that the release of this album is not something accidental but the result of serious and hard work. Personally, I really enjoyed listening to Wreck. It is not an album that will make a huge impact one the Metal scene, but it is definitely an album that is worth its money!
I think that many metalheads will like this album. Give it a try. I believe that it deserves some money much more than other shitty releases out there! Did I mention I loved its cover?
