TORCHIA is a 5-Piece Melodic Death Metal Band from Tampere, Finland. This their second full-length album, three years after the release of ''Of Curses and Grief'' back in 2017. Melodic Death Metal and Finland go pretty much hand in hand so I do have high expectations on this one that's for damn sure.
There are so many Melodic Death Metal bands out there from Sweden and from Finland. You have that Gothenburg scene that are worshiped by countless bands and have been often imitated yet not duplicated. Some bands still try to get their head out of the water and some bands are head and shoulders about the rest. I think this band is a mixture of both. They do have that real IN FLAMES, DARK TRANQUILITY sound but they are obviously not reinventing the wheel.
I was able to listen to their previous efforts and this release is definitely much tighter and the band seem to have gained much needed confidence in their abilities. There is a lot of enthusiasm and energy in this record and you have some pretty memorable hooks. You can hear the influences throughout the songs yet it can be tedious and repetitive at times. They achieved a complex yet aggressive style while adapting their obvious significant influences. You have that youthful energy and boundless riffs that get your motor running. They have practiced really hard and forged themselves an identity.
I know it's not easy to stand out among giants like ARCH ENEMY, AT THE GATES, CHILDREN OF BODOM among countless others but they offer something steady yet unspectactular. It's a very nice effort and they are really in your face yet they offer something we have heard 1000's of times unfortunately. They have a lot of promise and boatloads of potential, they just need to kick it in high gear.
