Tons - Hashension album cover

Metal maniacs, rejoice! I am proud to present to you: TONS; signed via Heavy Psych Sounds, hailing from Italian grounds - performing Sludge/Doom Metal, on their 3rd full-length studio album entitled: "Hashension" (released October 7th, 2022). Since formation in 2009; the trio in question have 3 full-length studio albums entitled: "Musineè Doom Sessions Vol. 1" (released March 10th, 2012), "Filthy Flowers Of Doom" (released April 20th, 2018), and this here 3rd qlbum entitled: "Hashension" of which I am introduced to. On top of 2 splits entitled: "Lento / Tons" (released June 30th 2013) and "Doom Sessions Vol. 4" (released April 23rd, 2021) in their discography so far. 6 tracks ranging around 39:06; TONS arrange an intricately designed formula on some heavy-hitting Sludge/Doom Metal amalgamations.

Opening up with this rompy rhythm; this weighty rumble of reverberating remedy revs & pounds speakers with thudding sturdiness, a gnarly flamboyant in "Dope Dealer Scum" belts a chunky foundation in primitively raw tonality amongst an amplified heft in concretely gritty clamour of sulphurous yet volatile riffage. This rampant rollick gallops into a blistering barrage frenzy in distorted noise pursuit that ramifies with some fuzzy execution and harmonic density, an impactful calamity forges a flickering bass audibility from frontman multitasker Paolo who thumps his axe with rough tremors while piledriving finesse elements an extreme firepower momentum that's most groundbreaking. This one is full instrumental, while the next one "A Hash Day's Night" speeds things up maliciously with rambunctiously smacking malignancy while raspy vocals soar with throaty slabbiness amongst a solid yet killer laceration stridency that strifes with dexterously infectious immensity that's showcases some neat gutturals in bleeding grunts for good measure.

Nothing but a slithering outre of ominously jarring manifestation rips out some shredding guitar hooks from Stueso's guitar frolics in chugging perseverance; while "Slowly We Pot" ruthlessly persists with fierce crescendos and towering tremolo vehemence, which utilises some crunchy attributes in snappy nimbleness & punchline brutally. A bombastic but barbaric haze distils a cavernous conundrum in scouring snarls and abominable abhorrence that's rather just bulldozing in every sense, sludgy yet savage - TONS portrays this meltdown bludgeoning... fusing Gollum-esque squeals while tormenting anguish grovels viciously with pummeling echoes in battering choppiness from Marco. Everyone grinds with repugnant zeal; as "Hempathy for the Devil" empowers eardrums with smokey distinction, interjecting a distinguished semblance of linearity but while providing this rolling, organic substance which motors on with prolific machination profusely & robustly.

The penultimate banger "Ummagummo" has a catchy furore embedded; as a dirty fuelled doom chop systematically smothers you with virulently salubrious sledge hammering, and battering vigour that's rigorously monolithic while ponderously stoney - tempo wise. While this primal yet radically wicked & flexibly fundamental panache trembles minds with pandemonic throttling to boot. Overall concluding "Hashension" with the finale epic bruiser: "Hashended" which titles itself as an outro (probably the longest outro in the history of music?); unearths a bestial belligerence in an unorthodox way, which makes this record enjoyably entertaining whilst making this spinning an intriguing discovery but nothing to rage on over... it's good if you want to relax after a hard and stressful working day with a grass-filled smoke - otherwise, most surely a band to see live also. Bottom line; a decent listen, should you crave a sludgy, doomfest that's most marvellously transparent whilst rellished with refreshingly exuberant buoyancies in transgressional songwriting musicianship & screaming bedlam in which rivets with desegregating sludginess to boot for good measure - most definitely check TONS out.
