Tomcat - Something's Coming On Wrong album cover

Taking your listening ears by storm we have the best TOMCAT's from Slovenia with their latest release Something's Coming On Wrong. Makes me think what is coming on wrong but that is far from what is heard, so let's head out into their musical alley and hear what howls these cats create. Listening to this strikes a late 80's to early 90's glam metal from L.A. GUNS, DANGEROUS TOYS to SHOTGUN MESSIAH like influences all meshed into a toxic drink that is all their own. Starting off this high impact listening experience one can sense the rockin' vibe energy that TOMCAT possesses that is a reflective throwback to the early THE KILLERS, which is an excellent reference but yet again the band drops the bomb of their own musical makeup which makes for a steadfast group. Third song "It's A Sin" has an interesting groove but carefully listening to it a few times one can make out some musical influence harmonies from early SCORPION's song "Big City Nights", more the guitar rhythms than per-say the vocals.

TOMCAT has a straight forward sound that can produce radio friendly tunes based on their melodic songwriting that can be quite surprising such as the slow fourth song "One Left" which can be a ballad of sorts but yet not at the same time. Song begins with soft drums, lamented guitar and piano that start out melodic then joins in by the vocals which are reminiscent to early ROB THOMAS (MATCHBOX TWENTY-Yourself or Someone Like You-96) but vocalist Ziga owns it 100%. One small thing that can be heard with this song during (4:16) one can hear almost a distant echoing of GUNS N' ROSES guitar mid-solo to their song "November Rain" along with some piano that take you back to the early 90's era. Just when you think you have got a band down and they throw you for a shock by a complete different track which is a jazz infused almost bluesy glam funk rock song seven "Smell The Funk" charges a packed rhythm section that belts out its grooves with the dancing guitar chords that are perfectly done. One might think of a band playing at a jazz club during a Mardi Gras party. Well, one thing for sure that track is musical party unto itself! Overall TOMCAT displays interesting musical twists and turns with Something's Coming On Wrong, with their sound that is hard to pin point but nonetheless interesting. Recording overall the sound is sweet and crisp, all instruments take center stage not depleting anything but offering more than what is. TOMCAT has a bright future and excited to see what becomes of them. If music that delivers more to the soul than the average band TOMCAT is proof they are just that! Great work!
