Titan's Wrath - Will Of The Beast album cover

These Californians have achieved plenty, but they still have much to learn. TITAN'S WRATH have shared their new EP "Will Of The Beast" with the world which will no doubt be a treat for fans. However, from an outsider's perspective, I can't say I'm impressed unfortunately. The EP bares five tracks which lack variety and memorability. Also, I don't like to pick fault with musicianship because nobody's perfect and recording circumstances can make things sound odd, but I'm sure the drums miss beats here and there when they shouldn't and the vocals don't fit the bill unfortunately. Maybe I'm struggling to keep up with the speed of these fast bands nowadays and my ears are deceiving me, but you can be the judge of that.

"Hell's Gate" introduces us to the blurry production that overshadows the entire EP. The raucous guitar tone is too overcooked with distortion to me and the bass is buried. There's a decent melodic section through the middle of the song but it's wasted because we can barely hear the bass guitar so the melodies have very little context from which to create an impact. Such a shame. Will Of The Beast" also has a good melodic section through the middle but it's overpowered by this seemingly cut throat production which throws all concept of quality out of the window unfortunately.

"Night Terror" is literally a terror to listen to I'm afraid. Not fun at all. The song writing is just poor and lacks purpose for me. "Changes" certainly is a nice change on the album with a more somber intro which gives us hope for a brief moment but the atmosphere is soon spoiled by some distasteful riffs which interrupt the whole thing like being woken up when you're in a pleasant dream. "Crusader" breaks into another great intro with a wonderful high guitar melody and a hint of keyboard to help out, but once again it's not long before the song loses purpose and becomes uncomfortable to endure.

After listening to "Will Of The Beast", I am left feeling the TITANS WRATH has so much more to offer in the distant future but that right now they're not up to scratch. They're overly loud and meaningless sadly, but I feel that if I were to return to this band in five years or so they might have found their feet. I wish them the very best of luck and hope they can find some meaning soon.
