TIME FOR SOMETHING REAL is an Israeli band formed in 2012 by three friends in high school. During compulsory military service, the fourth was added, the fifth member joining soon after. As each member was added, they brought something new to the mix, adding to the sound and the feel of the music. From The Summit To The Pit is the debut release for the band, self-produced and released on July 31, 2020. The record is available on most streaming platforms.

As this is a six song EP, it is a quick listen at just over 31 minutes. One of the first things I noticed was the distinct influence by AVENGED SEVENFOLD. The composition and stylings are very similar, and as they say, "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." Another quickly noticeable aspect is the sheer amount of vocals. Looking at the credits, everyone in this band sings, and they all bring something different. That part is very reminiscent of KING'S X or SEVENDUST. This is blending of some of my favorite bands!

"World Of Blue" kicks the disc off with a mid-tempo rocker. After a keyboard intro, the main riff kicks in, setting a moderate pace that will be maintained through much of the song. With some clean and almost growled vocals and a rhythm section that can vary its' playing to fit the guitar overtones, this is a pretty good introduction to this band. This song sets the pace and tone for the rest of the record.

Next up is "Deflection Of The Feel", followed by "Stream Of The Years", two songs that again have a pretty bog sound based on having five instruments and multiple vocalists. The hooks are catchy and the songs lend themselves to moving body parts; foot shaking, finger tapping, whatever is appropriate for your situation. "Stream Of The Years" has the probably the best intro to the record. That twin guitar blazing intro with the scream... always a hit with me!

"Lessons Of Wonder" takes us over the halfway mark a mellow entrance and the most melodic of the songs so far. Wrapping the album up is "Dead Remains" and "Faith", two more songs with catchy riffs. Harder than "Lessons", they put the stamp on the sound TIME FOR SOMETHING REAL seems to be aiming for.

This is a consistent record with a distinct sound and feel. The songs are well composed and played. The recording and engineering is good. There is a lot to like about this record. At times it feels almost like a tribute band to AVENGED SEVENFOLD, but there is enough of a difference to matter. In the end, you can tell it's influence, not copycatting. Overall, I like this record. It's a quick little record you can listen to and catch all the subtle intricacies that make it worth the time to play it on loop for a few hours.
