One more Black Metal Release that arrives from Agonia Records. Up to now, I have received some good Black Metal albums from this label, so I am trying to be optimistic about what I am going to face upon placing this album in my CD player. Is it going to be one more boring Black Metal band that recycles the same and the same again or something fresh or at least honest?
Polish Black Metal band THUNDERBOLT (not to be confused with the Norwegian NWOBHM band THUNDERBOLT) was formed back in 1993. The band once featured members that now play in bands like RIVERSIDE, DARK FURY and AZARATH. After being in the game for about fourteen years, THUNDERBOLT release their brand new album, Apocalyptic Doom.
Having left behind their pagan themes for some years now, THUNDERBOLT have become a classic Black Metal band that talks about Satanism, anti-Christianity and destruction. Their sound is close to bands like JUDAS ISCARIOT and WATAIN, as well as some EMPEROR elements. They play this brutal and extreme style of Black Metal, while adding some very nice blasphemous Black Metal melodies. The production is more than decent (not something incredible) and gives something extra to the overall result. Basically, whoever has read my review on the last URGEHAL album must know that this band has not many differences. The same style of Black Metal and almost the same brutality.
I have reviewed so many Black Metal stuff lately that I have not many things to comment on each album! The fact is that it is not a bad album, but at the same time, it is not something incredible. It is definitely a good addition to a Black Metal fan's collection. The rest, go for something else.
