Intolerance
Throwdown

I will keep the introduction as short and sharp as THROWDOWN's aggressive, anger-fueled music, inspired by both the likes of PANTERA and 90's Metalcore. Their newest release is borne of time well-spent by these SoCal lads, combining infectiously catchy grooves with classic no-punches-pulled hardcore music which, quite frankly, saw its better days before the waves of modern 'aesthetic' bands.
The short and savage opener, "Fight or Die", is a drowning amalgamation of aggressive-but-accessible Thrash and Punk, covered in smatterings of rifftastic Grove Metal. Very quickly a listener will learn that the band's music, and the message behind it is a brutal kind of blunt with a back-to-basics black-or-white vibe. "Suffer, Conquer" is somewhat more of an inward transition; slowed down do a crushing chug that percussively accentuate the powerful vocal delivery. Let's face it; the music is not overly technical; but, staying true to the roots of Punk, the musicians are not restricted by the urge to 'try too hard' instrumentally.
"Intolerance" very well accentuates the increasingly popular 'breakdown' motif in punk music, marked by slowed-down, tuned-down riffs that have a gravitational effect on your mind. To break the monotony, trade-offs between heavy grooves and abrasive Punk chords are abundant. "Born and Buried Alone" stood above many of the other tracks as my favorite piece; one of the longer (by Punk standards) tracks, it is dragged down to a dirge-like speed. What attracted me to it were the simple but ingenious chord progressions that accentuate their brand of bass-heavy grooves. It also features a brilliant solo by guest musician Dave Nassie
If a meat-and-potatoes approach to aggressive, heavy music that carries what is a growingly popular, but controversial message, this is your band, whether or not you care about the somewhat repetitiveness of the album. The way I see it, sound-alikes don't matter if you like the sound.
