Through The Noise - Tragedies album cover

As usual, one must have in mind that musical definitions that are called 'labels' are, in reality, not a form of translating music into words, but a poor way of explain what a band plays. An example: one can say that DIMMU BORGIR and MAYHEM are both Black Metal bands, but do they sound similar? Or maybe the contrasts between the works of SLAYER and METALLICA can make things clear. The best thing to be done: read the reviews, but hear the bands on your own. And the work of the Swedish quintet THROUGHT THE NOISE isn't easy to be labeled, as "Tragedies", their latest release (a 3-songs EP) shows.

They work on a modern form of the combination between Metal and Hardcore, but in a modern way that could be called Post-Hardcore Metal. But there are tons of influences of what can be called 'Swedish Metal DNA' in their music, with some modern melodies that have roots of Gothenburg Death Metal. It's really a musical work easy to be assimilated, modern and full of energy, and some melancholic melodies adorning their songs. Yes, it's very good, and not hard to deal with. These songs were recorded during COVID-19 lockdown due the lack of possibility of playing alive. The sonority is what one can expect from such form of music: modern with an abrasive insight that doesn't tear apart the sound clarity. It combines both aspects in a good way, allowing their ideas to be expressed.

"Tantalus" is filled with noisy melodies and a catchy aggressiveness, based on strong and massive guitar riffs, with a bone-smashing load of weight (but pay attention to some melodic parts). On "Aktaion", the melodic side of their music becomes evident, but even using a clear aggressive insight (with a great work of bass guitars and drums). And "Lamia" shows a clear melancholic outfit with Gothenburg melodies arising from the guitars, but with vocals where the contrasts between screamed normal tunes with clean ones are always a wise choice. THROUGH THE NOISE really did a very good work on "Tragedies", and can become a very good release for the fans of Modern tendencies on Metal and Hardcore. And maybe to those that have an open mind to deal with music.
