THRONE OF KATARSIS are coming from Norway and were created around 2003. They are two members, Grimnisse in guitars/bass/vocals and Vardalv in drums, playing orthodox Black Metal. In this, their second, full length CD they continue hailing bands like DARKTHRONE, BURZUM and the rest, which is good I don't say, but somewhere they turn the whole thing into shit.
In general, they have all the basic elements that any Black Metal fan wishes to hear or see. Sound coming straight from the dark dungeons, frosty guitars, good vocals, a white/black cover, corpse-painted faces etc. In Winds Of Blasphemy they are moving close to ENSLAVED's very first era together with DARKTHRONE and some vocal mimicry a la Attila Csihar with a result sounding quite satisfactory. They are crossing the limits with Lysets Endeligt in which they are copying BURZUM so openly that it becomes embarrassing. In fact it can be considered as a cover song and here is the point; if they are doing it 'cause they are die hard fans it's good but you have to keep it for yourself. If it's anything else, probably they are joking us. Of course they are neither the first nor the last and I'm also thinking at least they are copying very well since I have heard other bands that are making this worst, but I don't know if such an allegation is stable.
The Darkest Path and Det Iskalde Morket contain boring and total trite ideas without nerve, without feelings. Like staring at an impressing store's showcase but inside emptiness hides. It is there that somehow the listener will start losing his interest for this album.
The last song, Summoning The Horns, is a little bit better but remains in the mediocre level, having once again a copy mode of the De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas vocals. At least, they are not ridiculous.
Overall, Det Iskalde Morket is nonchalant, beyond any sympathy I may have for their style. I don't doubt that if I was 16 years younger and - instead of Hvis Lyset Tar Oss and Under A Funeral Moon - I happened to listen to this record I would speak right now with some dithyramb, but such guesstimates are useless. Here we have more to do with a cover band (and since they like my favorite bands they sound good!) but I must underline that are enough moments are completely 'cavernous' that may lead you to sleep.
