Thornium - Mushroom Clouds And Dusk album cover

The Swedish band THORNIUM was founded by Thyph in 1993. During that year and until 1995, the band began to make its first steps with a demo album were Thyph played all instruments and then with a full length album were the other members of the band joined in. In 1995 THORNIUM's debut album was released and even though the band did a good start and received encouraging feedback for their work, sadly they had to freeze the band.. Thyph was sent to jail and wasn't released up until recently.
What's really worth mentioning is that someone would expect that we would never hear from THORNIUM again after that, but still the band in all these years never really split up and in 2008 they managed to sign with the Dutch label Soulseller Records a three album deal and deliver in 2009 the first of the three: Mushroom Clouds And Dusk.
From the very first spin you can tell that this is classic and brutal Black Metal. Hellish riffs and really fast blastbeats and that's all you need to know. If you are looking for originality, well there's not much to find here, other bands like MARDUK and DARK FUNERAL have been there and done that even better. But still this is a decent album, loyal to the Black Metal beliefs and deserves the attention of the die hard fans of the genre.
The entire Mushroom Clouds And Dusk is an album that follows the traditional Swedish Black Metal style  with songs like Doden, Black Goddess and Horns And Hoofs standing out. It's raw, it's primitive and it's a shame that it doesn't have what it takes to differentiate from the rest Black Metal albums out there. Will have them in mind though for their next release.
