THOKKIAN VORTEX was made by Lord Kaiaphas back in the June of  2006. Lord Kaiaphas composed a track called "Into the Nagual". He sent this track to Lord Ahriman of DARK FUNERAL with hopes that Ahriman would be interested in recording guitar for the track. Lord Ahriman was pleased with what he heard and decided to compose additional riffs. That song was on the first full-length album under the same name in 2016. Z. Winter was the Guitarist and Backing Vocalist on that album, Nativ Kedem aka Vitan was the Bassist. Both have since left the band.

"Banished the Lion of Kutha" starts as if it is meant to be in a Lawrence of Arabia, the drums soon enter to break that thought. The rest of the band join in, excluding vocals within the first minute to start the melodies. The vocals enter just after; they are short, crisp and aggressive. They are exactly what you would be expecting from a Blackened Death Metal band. The pace is not frantic, but it is steady and well balanced. The vocals are easy to follow through out, it is a good start to the album, but I am thinking there will be more intensity in forth coming songs.

"Thy Throne Is Mine" starts with a more progressive start than I was expecting, but it builds up nicely. It reminds me of the melody in "King" by SATYTICON, just a bit slower. The tempo is far slower, but is still balanced well, just expecting it to kick in and explode somehow. It does speed up and some decent guitar segments, but in doing these it loses some of the dark theme that they were trying to establish. That being said, there is nothing wrong with the song.

"The Moon Brethren" is adding vocals, which sound more like MAYHEM on "Freezing Moon", whilst still keeping the pace relevant to the song. There are several styles thrown in here to throw the balance off, but as it is more experimental, it keeps it all interesting. There is some Atmospheric samples from the keyboards in here. I do not think the slower vocals work, they sound like a farmer from the West Country. It's hard to work out what they were going for, but tis still not a bad song.

"Godspeed Satan" speeds things up once more. It is another different style here, more old school Death / Thrash vibes. Each song presents a new style, this one is less Back, more like when DARKHRONE did their Thrash album, it is not bad, but it certainly doesn't feel like their strongest hand to play. "The Wreathing Serpent" slows things down to a pace we have not heard, but you can hear the buildup similar to previous song. If it were down to me, I would have speed things up more because that was how they were doing at the start of the album and I fell more solid. The balance is still solid, but the lack of creativity on some songs leaves a bland taste, then as I write this they kick in some great guitar licks to kick things up, not pace but the style of the song

"Traverse the Tonal" sounds very progressive to start, the pace and balance are controlled well, not letting anything expand topo far. Midway through the expansion opens up, not to a full level, but showing a few changes before reverting to the initial melody. For me, they could have gone nuts and thrown the balance away, even for a short solo, just mix it up and let go of the steering wheel for a bit. "Winter Forest Cry" starts with a very unusual piano solo for a band of this subgenre. I thought at first it would expand, but the guitars kick in to shift the motion, which is a good idea. The pace has gone; it just seems like a song added to change the pace of the album to slow things down to the close. The added female (no idea who) vocal additions seem pointless because they do not expand enough or add a big enough depth to it. It is hard to complain because it is a good sound, it would have been good in an album with this pace overall, just lose the keyboard, or slow it down, make it less Pop, more chilling

"Come to the Sabbat" sounds like it could be played on The Last of the Mohicans. What the fuck happened with the vocals? This song, is a very weird mix, seems more like a jingle than a Metal song. Not exactly sure, what they were going for seems more like a weird mix of something put together to mock GHOST and BLUE ÖYSER CULT. Fair play it is shit and pointless. "Sunrise over Irkalla" is the end to this album that started going in strange directions midway through. This is just an outro the end the album,

For me, if they had mixed up the creativity throughout all the song and mixed in a few of the styles it would have created something weird and wonderful. The songs are all well balanced and will go well mixing into playlists, this will enhance their potential. The vocals work when they keep to the original plan; they are easy to follow and aggressive, for me is a great thing. We have heard better albums, we have heard far worse. Good overall album
