Stoke-on-Trent based band, THIS SUN NO MORE, have been working on a concept album to be entitled "In Circles" and it's the first segment that I've had the privilege of listening to. Although only three tracks, there is so much to mention that's been cleverly embedded into theses tracks.

They are, without a doubt, Progressive and there's no other way to describe their sound. Incorporating a steady pace and a heavy influence of bass and sultry guitar tones, it's clear that each musician plays a vital role to the construct of each track. The change in dynamic, pace and the subtle build ups are just some of the reasons as to why I think THIS SUN NO MORE has a great chance of becoming something even better. Without sounding patronising, I think it's unusual, yet admirable, to be less reliant on vocals, and focus more on the bond of musicianship. I find that it's easy to forget the rest of the band when they're perhaps being overpowered by a voice. However, THIS SUN NO MORE allow us as listeners to hear the true talents behind the music.

I was mostly taken with "Storm", as this seemed to have the most shifts and unexpected elements. This band have made me realise that music isn't just about catchy riffs and melodies, but about the true structure of a song and how the steady progression of the band as a whole allows us to think deeper about how these tracks are written. As sickly and cheesy as that sounds, I stand by it! Music should be an experience that changes each time. This is where I relate my point to this band in particular, as they create an atmosphere, an experience. Although I wouldn't normally choose to play Progressive Rock or Metal, I can absolutely appreciate the skill that's been put into these tracks and in many ways, it's perhaps opened my mind to the real meaning of music itself. THIS SUN NO MORE seem to have so much ambition and aren't lacking in enthusiasm and know how!<
