I had the best of intentions when I took this album in my hands for its review. Really I did, but somehow things didn't turn out the way I expected. Let me start by saying that the first thing that caught my eye is the album's cover. A church, a bunch of skulls, a bleeding cross and a "chick" in black playing the violin under the grey moon (the limited edition has a different cover). I overcame this fact by saying to myself that it's the music that counts. But our Italian neighbors with the gothic roots and the symphonic black metal influences, I didn't manage to keep up with my initial expectations.

"Moonlight Waltz" is an album that can be compared with a B horror movie. It is full of 'clichés', cheap thrill and terror. Obviously THEATRES DES VAMPIRES (a name borrowed from Ann Rice's books) have an keen interest in vampire mythology (isn't it obvious ???!!!) but they fail to offer to the listener the true mystery or the dark atmosphere of the vampire myth through their music. The voice of Sonya Scarlet is quite unusual (in a good way) but the heavy Italian accent makes it difficult to understand any of the English lyrics and that is quite disturbing . The first song "Keeper of Secrets" ,which quite frankly I really liked, can be characterized as the hit song of "Moonlight Waltz" with the excellent choice of Snowy Shaw as quest vocalist (THERION). Also "Carmilla" (great melody and a fine violin end), "Obsession" (beautiful female chorus and eerie vocals ) and "Sangue" (great synthesizers and a catchy 'goth' beat) are the other pleasant surprises in the album but the rest of the songs are wondering aimlessly towards mediocrity and fake theatricality. The addition of Cadaveria (OPERA IX) in "Le Grand Guignol" and Eva Breznikar (MAKE UP 2, LAIBACH) in "Medousa" as guests vocalists, unfortunately, doesn't improve the overall quality of the album . Among the original tracks you will find an Italian cover of the pop hit 'Hija De La Luna', initially sung by the Spanish pop band Mecano, under the name of "Figlio Della Luna".

As a conclusion the only thing that can be said it is that such an outcome would be only expected from a beginner's group and not from a group that has a17 years of presence in music. Although the album has some great riffs, great instrumentation, and good production it seems that it lacks something. For me it lacks authenticity. This is the factor that transforms a B horror movie into a blockbuster!
