Electric Sheep

The Wave And The Particle

If there is a band that could qualify as Alternative Rock, then THE WAVE AND THE PARTICLE should be put on top of the list. The combination you get here is all Rock. You will hear Gothic and Symphonic mixed with Industrial and Electro. Well, the guitars sometimes do have a Metal sound and feel, but overall “Electric Sheep” doesn’t go past the Rock mark.

The band was formed in 2015 by singer Katharina Huang and Vasiliy Sharikov, the man on the keys and programming. “Electric Sheep” is actually their second album, the debut being “Event Horizon” from 2019. And even though I do classify the band as Rock, the Metal label WormHoleDeath must have heard something special, as they signed the band for their latest effort.

I have to say that the music in itself is outstanding. These musicians know their stuff, have a knack for putting together good tunes and executing them just right. It makes for a pleasant surprise, as you never know what to expect when you are told this is Alternative Rock Music. Instrumentally the songs all make sense, have a sense of purpose and give you an idea at how divers and varied these guys dare to be. It makes THE WAVE AND THE PARTICLE into a band for the very adventurous, and definitely not for those with narrower minds. I must say that on music alone I would be able to rate “Electric Sheep” as an easy eight out of ten.

But, yes, there are also vocals to consider. That is really where “Electric Sheep” is to be put into the Alternative Music sector, as singer Katharina Huang not only sings in a rather high voice, she also varies in height from one second to another. For those who remember Sinead O’Connor’s first album, she did the same. But she sounded altogether much more mature about it then Katharina Huang does. She regularly sounds like a little girl, or at least one of those ladies wearing a remote-control egg, whilst someone else is controlling the intensity of the device. Let’s just say that her voice will not appeal to everyone. I myself am still undecided, which is mainly due to the musical abilities of THE WAVE AND THE PARTICLE. My advice therefore has to be that however adventurous you are, you need to have a listen to what they produce on “Electric Sheep” before deciding whether this is the music for you.
