A Swedish metal band from the city of Gävle was formed in 1990. Their music is often described as melodic heavy metal or power metal, with a touch of medieval and folk music. Having 5 releases out and touring extensively, participating at Sweden Rock Festival, Gates of Metal, 2000 Decibel and many more, they once again ready to release the a new up-and-coming masterpiece, entitled "Sacred Fire".

When you hear the name THE STORYTELLER - you become curious and full of expectations. It's that kind of name that obligates and demands a lot from the bearer.

The opening track "As I Die" has a powerful guitar intro, followed by L-G Persson's amazing voice. On a totally different note, "One Last Stand" is more technical, filled with the highly known 'must-do-in-a-power-band' guitar riffs and solos. The song that gave the name of the album, "Sacred Fire" is not as 'in-you-face' as you would expect. It has a strong ballad feeling at the beginning, followed by rapid crescendo guitars. Voice alternations are present as well (the high pitched vocals part is simply amazing) followed by a catchy refrain - probably the reason the band chose this song to name the album after.

On a more serious level, "Ferryman" is a compelling well-made ballad, telling the story of a 'gone man' in the land of the dead. With "In Search for Treasures, Stones and Gold" we deal with a very interesting mix of power metal riffs with a 'medieval-folkish' sound coming from the chorus. Nonetheless, a solid track that got to me extremely quick.

A very sad ballad "Coming Home" makes me think of Ozzy's "Mama I'm Coming Home"; don't get me wrong, the songs are nothing like each other, except the theme that stood behind it. The last track "God Of War" is a fitting ending for the album, characterized by dominant solos, convincing voice and a lusty tale.

The fairytale that THE STORYTELLER started to tell fifteen years ago seems to be a never-ending story. Even though there are no innovations in the genre, it's a strong album that it's worthy of your time.

To sum it up, "Sacred Fire" is a good continuation for a band that has been on the market for so long. A good rhythm an addictive tempo and a powerful voice, are the 3 most powerful strengths.
