Hailing from Sweden, THE SOUL EXCHANGE is a band that can be described as a mix of Classic Hard Rock, Contemporary Metal and Melodic Metal. Founded by guitarist Hans von Bell in 2016 as a means of achieving the new sound he was seeking, He recruited son Thomas, Daniel John on vocals and keys, Patrik Ekelof on bass and Benny White on drums to solidify the lineup. Having recorded as a solo artist, Hans named the band THE SOUL EXCHANGE after a song from his previous solo release. "Edge Of Sanity" is the band's Pride & Joy Music follow-up to 2017's EP release "Vow Of Seth", also on Pride & Joy. As the EP hinted, THE SOUL EXCHANGE has evolved and developed a darker, harder feel to their sound and more importantly lyrically.

"Edge Of Sanity" opens with "Steal My Mind", and immediately showcases impressive musicianship. Vocalist Daniel John manages to handle English lyrics quite well, impressively even, as this seems to be a roadblock for many bands overseas.  Speaking of lyrics, the band utilizes Jens Joel Evaldsson, as lyricist and co-songwriter quite effectively to convey a look at the darker side of the human psyche. Perhaps a bit unusual in Metal circles, if it helped the band overcome the English language hurdle, then I hope to see it utilized by more bands in the future. "My Reflection", "No Forgiveness" and "Master" follow. These are good songs, with good hooks, superb playing and with the ability to draw you in.

With "Right Here", it's as if a switch goes off though. Instantly grabbing you, it's the most memorable track for me. Great harmonies and splendid guitar work via the von Bells. "Quest For Life" follows a similar theme and impresses nearly as much. Overall I enjoyed the second half of the album a bit more than the first, but found it as a whole far more impressive than I anticipated initially. I believe the fact that each band member has had previous recording and touring experiences in other bands helped them come together cohesively with "Edge Of Sanity".  In closing, THE SOUL EXCHANGE has presented us with a melodic, harmonious and grand album to enjoy.
