The band THE RIVEN reveals their debut EP featuring a 70's inspired sound, with a charming Hard Rock from beginning to end of this work. A very interesting fact that highlights the band from others who are inspired by this musical period is an excitement and rebellion feeling present on it, soul of the genre, which are perfectly demonstrated by the vocals of Charlotta Ekebergh. Another highlight is the magnificent work performed by Max Ternebring (bass), counting with some influence of the blues style sometimes. Arnau Diaz (Guitar) and Olof Axegärd (Drums) complete the team of the talented musicians. The mixing was very well done mainly considering it is the first work together besides a great production.

The whole "Black Bird" has five tracks and about 23 of total running length. The experience begins with "Ain´t No doctor" brings a very fun beat and shows several vocal variations with more slipped and irregular riffs rather than paused and standards, a well-crafted feature. "The Tower" already has the most prominent bass making it very pleasant, as well as containing a chorus of those that stick to the head and take weeks to leave. "Black Bird" comes in a slightly more contained rhythm, rather reminiscent of a mostly lead guitar bands like DEEP PURPLE. "Killer On The Loose" begins with some electronic effects and is a more groovy and lively song. "One Last Time" closes the EP again with a well assertive bass an exciting rhythm and well-honed screams.

Anyway, I consider that even is not a totally new experience, the band has its own identity. It really is a great challenge to bring songs inspired by Heavy Rock considering that there are already so many classics that have already explored in several, the genre beyond most of the new bands that have nothing to aggregate generally. Nothing else seems substantive to THE RIVEN who managed to launch a great work on their debut. The band certainly has the potential to get out of the underground and tour for many years. At least I hope so.
