The Risen Dread

They were formed in 2018 with Mat Maher joining in January 2019. That is pretty much all anyone knows about the band, but fuck it, it's the sound that's important. Let's hear what the Irish quartet can do in 3 songs for the EP
"Revelations" has that PANTERA style of intro that you may hear floating around many Groove songs. Vocally, they have their own styles. Its slow, its aggressive and that makes it intense. It's a good mix. The song feels like it should kick in, but is always pulled back. Its more Sludge than Groove. They do show off a bit of Technical skills late into the song to mix up the feel of the song. Vocals could have changed, but they have stayed the same. Some may say they missed a trick, but I think constancy prevails
"Coward's 9" has a spoken intro, which sort of sounds like they are trying to emulate "Omerta" by LAMB OF GOD. They don't quiet have the same way with words that Randy is, but it's a good intro nonetheless. The melody doesn't kick in, it is gently swayed. You may have thought that the song would kick in, but they have gone for more of a technical approach. It has aggression on vocals, but there is not always enough from the instrumentalists to keep up and it shows.
"Fallen" has the Groove & Metalcore mix vibes from the off. The Hardcore-style aggression on the vocals is easy to hear. The pace of the song is something like KINGDOM OF SORROWS would do. Not a bad pace at all. The outburst from the vocals go into helping the melody carry its way in the song.
It's very hard to establish an overall feel to an EP, due to the lack of tracks. From what we can hear, the songs have their own styles which can be followed onto an album and expressed more. I look forward to hearing more. I hope if they do release a new album, they speed things up to mix the sounds.
