While a new album is being prepared, why not secure a chance for long standing fans and possible newcomers to enjoy a little drop in the ocean? Short and brief as it was, I was affected by the latest three tracked EP of THE RESURRECTION SORROW, "Scorpion Savior Sessions", and became a fan of this rather unknown group. Whoever accepts new groovy American Metal as enjoyment while adding a hefty touch of 70s oriented Doom, I believe that this foursome crew will discharge the right dosage of the white powdery drug into their lungs.

At first I thought I was listening to some kind of LIFE OF AGONY meets DOWN with obvious BLACK SABBATH roots, yet later on it seemed to me that THE RESURRECTION SORROW turned slightly extreme on me but not too much. Whether it was Sludge or excessive Doom, meaning the New York style like TYPE O NEGATIVE or A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH, I liked what I heard. Moreover, "Scorpion Savior", the second track, reminded me a lot of the mid era of CELTIC FROST right before their downfall. As you can tell, while the main emblem of this EP is Doom Metal, there much more than that.

"Scorpion Savior", along with a wisely chosen track selection, presented or reminded the band more rather diverse than stuck as a single minded group. "Pale Kiss (Endless Storm" presented the groove behind the band while showing their version of 70s BLACK SABBATH. Although I expected a bit more of the lead guitars of Zak Gross, he filled it up, along with Coelho's strong bass line, quite well. So did Mr. Dementia that sang with finesse. "Scorpion Savior" was the might of the three as it mixed both slight extremities with New York oriented Doom Metal. That procedure did a fine honour for this great subgenre. "Burning Halo" turned back to the groovier side of THE RESURRECTION SORROW, yet here it showcased a relatively attractive lead guitar section with crafty drum work.

So if you didn't know the name by now, don't you forget it. THE RESURRECTION SORROW will be releasing a second album soon and this is only a taste. Fans of new American Metal will probably love this but I think that doomers will get cracked as well but what is going on here. Although with a rather simple but to the point production, this short release delivered.
