The Pinpricks - Rituals EP album cover

THE PINPRICKS were new to me until last week, within thirty seconds I was a fan, and I've beenthrough everything I can hear from them, to accurately give an honest review, and found myself asking how I hadn't heard of them until now. THE PINPRICKS aren't new to the game of music, the music industry or releasing music. With the release of their previous two EP's Bait (2020) and Hunger (2018), airplay around the world as well as YouTube and Spotify streams over the one hundred thousand marks, they have a sound that is unlike any other and sounds fresh and mesmerizing.

Rituals is no different in the style and gritty rock style with a sound that stands out, and begs for your attention. Ronja Kaminsky has a gritty meant for rock and roll voice that rivals that of rock geniuses like Joan Jett or Janis Joplin. Add in the musicianship of Nils Degenhardt and Roco Kobarg, you have a rock band with heart and soul and a combined talent that is meant to be rock and roll royalty.

The first track on the EP "Bait" starts out gritty and strong, vocally and that dirty rock guitar sound not far behind. Ronja sets the track up with a catchy chorus and lyrics that catch you with a strong hook, and a melody that makes it feel fresh and raw.

"Rainmaker" is a guitar driven rock track, gritty and raw, full of passion and emotion, not expected yet totally natural. The song isn't overpowering or lacking, filled with strong drum beats and leading with the guitar and bass melding together with the vocals, to give you a modern take on what could be a classic, give it some years, and we will be talking about this once again, I'm sure of it.

"Ritual" the third and final track on the EP is a alternative filled rock track, another direction for the band, each track bringing something different to the EP, filling Rituals with rock and roll, skills and talent that will take them the distance. "Ritual" is the heaviest track on the album, bringing out the vocals on this track, giving us the full Monty in regards to what they can do as a band, the track sounds natural, and strong.

Ritualsis a three-track EP that is full of different vibes, and feels that blend together and leave you disappointed that you only get to hear the three tracks, with a full-length album planned for release in 2022. Hopefully we won't have to wait long for more from the band, with a sound that is unique, stands out yet throws in some familiar feelings throughout, you could easily identify them with the likes of old school IN THIS MOMENT, THE PRETTY RECKLESS or even HALESTORM, within seconds those sounds disappear and you hear something totally different. THE PINPRICKS perfectly chose three songs to represent who they are, what they stand for and the sound they want to create with Rituals.
