Brave Tin World
The Murder of my Sweet
THE MURDER OF MY SWEET is a Cinematic Metal Band who comes to us from Stockholm, Sweden. Their fifth album, "Brave Tin World", was released on December 6, 2019. The band was founded by drummer and producer, Daniel Flores. in 2007. After bouncing around on style, THE MURDER OF MY SWEET settle on a style favoring film noir storytelling; and bands like Queen, E.L.O., and Genesis, only a little harder. Angelica Rylin's crystalline voice is such an integral part of each song on "Brave Tin World", with masterful guitar and beautiful solos by Christopher Vetter, Artful Bass by Patrick Janson, and Drums/Keyboards/Symphonics by Daniel Flores. No stranger to playing festivals and well liked with a large following, this band well on its way to popularity.
"Tin Soldiers" - A song that encourages you to live another day. To see your hidden strength. A song whose opening chords on keyboard lazily roll into the river of Angelica's larger than life voice. A song whose lyrics speak of inner strength and persisting through pain. "My Religion" - Immediately reminiscent of 80's synthesized keyboard tones, the beat quickly picks up. Powerfully sung vocals singing about love as a religion. Vetter's heavy guitar riffs offset the softness of this and elevate us back into metal heights. "Head of a Snake" - Aptly named, this is a song about betrayal. With a music box entry and thoughtfully written, poetic lyrics are crisply sung by an angelic vocalist. Fantastical tunes echo into one's head like light tracer's when on a mushroom trip.
"Safe in the Shadows" - First let me say this is my favorite track on the album. Easily relate-able lyrics, sung in that beautiful voice. This is a song that makes my heart ache in recognition of its connotations. The guitar solo towards the end makes you close your eyes and just get swept up in the whole experience. "Everyone Wins" - With drum beats that sound ceremonial to lead us into a much faster tempo, enter Angelica's voice like fireworks on the night sky. This song reminds us we are one. "No matter what, the world depends on you". "Alchemy of Sins" - Tastefully named, this song is about the world on your shoulder. A sound that brings to mind none other than Stevie Nicks and her darkly, haunting songs, and powerful voice. Whose background voices create a heady experience.
I deeply appreciate the positive notes to these lyrics, the uplifting pieces. I definitely recommend listening to this album several times to get the full effect. The first couple times I played it, I was like "meh". After about the fourth time, or so, sitting here enjoying some medical mary jane with headphones blaring and it hits me "ohhhhhh....." and my mind just went there. Where is "there"? You'll have to find that out for yourself. That was a very personal place of introspection. A place I've loved, hurt, rejoiced, and grown. All in one album.
