THE LIGHTBRINGER's purpose is to make you travel through ancient forgotten worlds and to reveal you its legends, mythology and cosmogony. The 90's Power/Black/Melodic Death wave provides guidelines for the inspiration and evolution of the band's music. "From the Void to Existence" contains ten tracks.

"From the Void" leads off the album; a short two-minute mood-setting track, with somber piano notes and guitar chords. Harmonized female vocals combine with harsh male vocals, and then machine-gun drumming follows. It segues into "The First Flickers of Thought," which has a similar sound. The charming female vocals but up against the harsh male vocals...it's like a call out and response. Most of the songs on the album are quite short. "Sparks of Will" opens with piano notes that quickly give way to harsh male vocals, followed by clean female vocals. The shorter length of the songs makes them harder to establish a fuller sound, in my opinion.

"The Awakening" opens with a more traditional guitar riff, and evil harsh vocals, while the instruments are creating this mystical melody in the background. "Desecration of the Void" is another short song, with melody in the background, but harsh male vocals. The two competing elements make for a nice listen. "The Seal of Annihilation" is a minute-and-a-half in length. Clean female vocals combine with harsh male vocals under a bed of aggressive yet melodic music. "Enchantment" is a three-minute track with harsh vocals and melodic guitars. The clean vocals soar into the heavens, and a sadness washes you away. This song really puts a stamp on that melancholic feeling.

"Crystallization" opens with a somber Black Metal riff and then the mix of harsh and clean vocals follows. I really like the combination here, along with the music in the background. It's unique and I have never really heard it before. "To Existence" is the closing, four-minute track. It opens with harsh vocals and a hastened pace, giving way to harmonized female vocals that are charming and alluring. The final track is a cover, but I can't figure out what the name of the band is who originally recorded it. It reads on my promo "Caravansary Kitaro." I like their version of the song nevertheless. It's an instrumental, and uses interwoven guitars to push the sound.

Overall, I found this particular sound to be quite unique in the genre. Take away the female vocals, and you have your more traditional Black Metal sound. But adding them in, it creates layers of beauty, along with the background melodies. They also temper the harrowing Black Metal sound with their charm, creating some variegate that you don't often hear in the genre. I would recommend this for the Black Metal fan who's willing to try something a little different.
