The Last Band

The Last Band are Swedish group from Gothenburg who apparently won the title of "Best Unsigned Live Act of Sweden" in 2012, which is kinda a big deal for smaller bands. "Hisingen" (the fifth largest island of Sweden) is the title of their third full-length, and (given you will continue reading) I'll guide you through my journey of experiencing this piece of northern art. In the beginning, especially on my first listen, I really didn't like the vocalist's voice. I thought it was annoying as hell, but - even though I still hate it at some points and don't think it's all that good - I can somewhat appreciate the highlights he brings to this record. Namely the songs "They Say", which is just pure genius and the best song on the album with hilarious sounding acoustic parts and pretty well-written lyrics. Or "Still Not In It For The Drugs", which pretty much sums up everything there is to love about this LP.
This is probably one of the best examples of "edgemetal" on the planet. It's not musically ambitious, not serious at all, and pure fun and simplicity. Its creative nu-metal with decent songwriting and cleaner vocals, but not genuinely clean production. However, just like the vocalist's performances, the overall quality of the 11 songs here are very hit-or-miss, especially in the second half. "Behind The Flag" and "Snabbare än Satan" were my least favorites, with both missing the catchy songwriting approach and overall just really generic riffs and rhythm. So overall, if you're a fan of Nu Metal or a fan of Hip-Hop and trying to get into metal music, I'd really recommend this. But if you only like complex compositions and you think creativity is tied to technical skill, avoid "Hisingen", because there's not going to be much in it for you.
