The Kings Head
The Kings Head

THE KINGS HEAD is a very popular pub name in the United Kingdom, I have three so named hostelries in my local area. I enjoy a good local, nice pint of beer and some decent music on the jukebox. Oh how I miss those days of fun!
THE KINGS HEAD, the band are however a very different prospect. Hailing from Breda in the Netherlands, their music is, well, Dark is the best way I can describe it, and is highly unlikely to be on in the background as you settle in for a drink and a game of dominoes. Coming across a real mix of Modern Metal, as the gravely growled vocals in places would indicate, Stoner Rock, and the Grunge, as some of the vocals are very NIRVANA, and ALICE IN CHAINS for example.
Unfortunately for me, this all adds up to an album which is simply put, not my cup of tea. Purely on a stylistic level this didn't work for me. I'm not a big fan of the modern screamer/growler vocal, and Grunge passed me by, so this really isn't an album for me. I didn't enjoy the listen, but music this dark you aren't probably meant to, it supposed to challenge and make the listener think, and for me it didn't.
However, I can still appreciate the craft. The musicians are obviously very accomplished, and the production as perfect, clear, well balanced and suited the music to a tee. Just sorry guys I wasn't your man.
