Sometimes when I hear a new album, I find myself lost for words, and that's not always a good thing. There comes an album every, so often, that just fails to tick pretty much any of the boxes that can qualify it as even a remotely good release. I hate to be so blunt, but sometimes there really is no nicer way to put it.

That's pretty much where the latest album from THE HAUNTING PRESENCE comes in. I'm a big fan of obscene music, but it has to still at least have some semblance of music about it. This is the sixth offering from the bizarre cacophony that is THE HAUNTING PRESENCE and it's the sixth round of aural mayhem.

The EP itself is pretty short, at around 20 minutes and spread over 6 songs. Not that you'd realise there were six songs however, each one bleeds into the next, and the only time I realised it was transitioning was when everything went quiet for a moment to allow some kind of bestial choking sound to cut through into a slightly different riff.

The guitar is muddy and finds itself getting lost under the clashing frequencies, quite often as the low-heavy sound blends into one omni-tone. The vocals are few and far between, but when they're there, they sound like something you would expect to find on an embarrassing black metal video on YouTube, only with more reverb poured all over them.

To be fair, I think I understand where this is all supposed to be going and I admire anything that's ballsy enough to say fuck you to accepted norms. Especially when this is done with a Satanic flair, there's just something about dark forces that makes almost everything alright. Only almost everything though, and I'm afraid the sheer chaos of this album loses a lot of the merit that I'm sure is buried away in there.
