The Generals - To Hell album cover

Swedish Death 'n' Roll machine THE GENERALS are back, more brutal than ever. "To Hell" was produced by Tomas Skogsberg (yeah you may remember him for producing ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER, HELLACOPTERS and others), recorded in Sunlight, Black Zombie Studio and Dead Dog Farm, the mix and master was done by Lawrence Mackrory at Dugout Productions (FKÜ, Lik, Baest). The sound is devastating, and I recommend you play this record at full volume, every time.

The band has been leaving behind the Death 'N' Roll sound and compromising more with the Death Metal side of their music and although you can still feel the groovy taste in some riffs, as in the opening "Faith in Fire", a track that transported me back to the days of ENTOMBED's "To Ride, Shoot Straight and Speak the Truth" days, combined with Melodic Death Metal where the guitar work is reminiscent of early DARK TRANQUILITY.

"Evolution of the Flesh" is another track that has that great and strong Melodic Death Metal sound. At times it sounds just like DISMEMBER and I love it. "Thrill Kill" gets sicker, following the same musical line that screams this is the pure old school Swedish Death Metal sound, the vocals are a bit more aggressive, adding up a spice of darkness to the song, the leads fall right over pretty dark riffing, short, yet crushing.

"Deadlock" is a beautiful song that makes me want to buy a lot of TNT and blow shit up, like a full-on action movie soundtrack song to create your own story to, great melodies merge with sheer brutality in order to create a perfect balance withing the chaos. I could keep going on and on, every track on this record is an invitation to headbang till you die. I dare you to stay put while you listen to "Undying Death". If you can, please quit listening to metal, you don't belong here, check your pulse, you might be dead.

There is so much purity in the sound of this album that it just seems that it came out in 1993 and nobody noticed till now. Of course, you can tell by the fresh mix and sound that this is a modern-day recording, but to me, as an old-school guy who keeps listening to "the devil's music" and was there when all the big names of today were barely releasing demos and still tape trading with their fans, this is a flawless piece of art that condenses all the beauty of yesterday's heresies.

This is perfect harmony in the universe of a metalhead like me. When people ask how can you be so serene with that crazy music? This is the why, you have found your nirvana, and the music brings you ecstasy. I'm in love with this record, I raise my glass and horns, my neck is going to grow Corpsegrinder size with this one.
