The Faceless - Autotheism album cover

These guys are either bi-polar or damn straight amazing. I remember first hearing their first album "Akeldama", a Technical Deathcore album which even Death Metal elitists heavily praised (looking at how they despise the genre). Their second release "Planetary Duality" was a pure Technical Death Metal album, which stimulated orgasm from first listen. Now, THE FACELESS are back with "Autotheism", an album with much more experimentation that will make you ejaculate from your ears. There better not be anyone sitting next to you.

We can all tell what this album is going to be about. The tracklist and album title clearly tell us the band's Atheist point of view of the world and everything, I won't discuss the topic on an album review, but just to let you know, the band worked on their lyrics pretty well, and do not fail delivering their message; especially since this is a Death Metal album. As for the experimentation I mentioned first, you'll witness an emphasis on clean and sung vocals on this album, and a very nice touch of keyboards to an endless attack of brutality.

The attack starts with a trio divisions entitled "Autotheist Movement", and they're connected together like mother and child. Each track is different sounding and offers something different than the other, instrumental-wise and vocal-wise. The clean vocals add a very unique feel to this creative Technical Death Metal approach, and the creativity being released here just cannot go unappreciated. The album moves forward with much more variety. For example, "The Eidolon Reality" is one catchy fuck of a song; I thought I was listening to a SCAR SYMMETRY chorus halfway through the song. "Ten Billion Years" has one of the best solos I heard in a while, and comes out as an amazing track. The closer you get to the end of the album the more you realize you're going to be listening to it for long time. Especially if you appreciate uniqueness in such a genre, and are you're a fan of the band.

The production isn't that amazing, but it's not something you're going to complain about, it rarely shows any flaws. Michael Keene did a much better job here than he did on the previous 2 releases.

Well, you heard me. The album is great, unique, and not another look-how-fast-I-can-play Technical Death Metal album. You will surely love this and give it many spins. I guarantee it, just keep some tissues next to you and don't wet yourself over this masterpiece. Cheers!
