The End - You Made The Rain Disappear album cover

Ok, before we get to the review of this album I have a bone to pick, the band's name pissed me off, whenever I do a review, especially of a new act, I try to do as much research as I can, that is done to enlighten the reader as to who I'm talking about as well as provide some further exposure for the band. Unfortunately I was unable to find any real info, and the name is part of it, I was able to find at least 7 other bands going by the same name as this one man project, is originality dead?? THE END is all this man was able to come up with? Ok, who am I to judge really, I guess the name has got to have some meaning for Svartblod.

Now that that's out of the way, time for the actual review of the bands 4 song debut EP. Frankly, I'm a bit at a loss for words, I had to listen to opener "Lost Memories" 4 times in a row, and I still didn't get it, ambient sounds broken up by Black Metal rhythms and guitar, a strange melody accompanying the track through. "Shallow Hearts, Empty Streets" continues the same as the opening track but this time featuring some spoken words by a female, firstly soft spoken and later screamed, the song goes over 6 and a half minutes, and I just don't understand why,
"Expectations" opens softly (again) and goes into a black metal rhythm (again), later featuring female spoken word (again). Closing track "Ashes in the Wind" is exactly the same as the rest of the album the main difference being the Black Metal screams featured in the closing minutes of the song.

Some may find this a work of genius; I'm not one of those people. I simply fail to understand what Svartblod was trying to do here; the songwriting is repetitive, pointless, badly structured. It's got a decent production, but it's not enough.

This album is terrible, and I fail to see why anyone would listen to it unless they're stoned out of their minds.
