The Dillinger Escape Plan - Option Paralysis album cover

I know that many of you may not like this band, some of you may not consider them to be a Metal band, but one thing's for sure, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE have met huge success and my personal and humble opinion is that it is not only a matter of good luck. The New Jersey boys have worked really hard to reach this point and whether you like it or not, they are taking their music one step further with every album. Yeah, you got it right. This is exactly what they are doing with "Option Paralysis", too.

No need for bio stuff here, since the band has managed to make itself known during its 13 years of metallic life. The only thing that has changed in this new album is a brand new contract with the French label Season Of Mist Records and the addition of guitarist Jeff Tuttle and drummer Billy Rymer.

With a "classic" strange artwork created by the band's former singer Dimitri Minakakis, the band's new album is insane as fuck (not that I expected something different). From the opening track "Farewell, Mona Lisa" to the closing "Parasitic Twins", THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN take us on a journey through bizarre images and extreme emotions, through aggressive sounds and calming melodies. "Option Paralysis covers every aspect of the band's insane musicallandscapes, with songs where they shred like they're on the verge of schizophrenia (fans of "extreme" DILLINGER will surely be satisfied here), as well as almost melodic breaks with Puciato's vocals being better than ever! The band's influences are visible once more with FAITH NO MORE being "desecrated" (in a good sense of course) with a dark vibe surrounding the whole album. The band shows for the first time the full potential of each member without a specific musician being in the forefront. The band's two newbies are also showing that the hot seat they are sitting on is only making them go berserk! Tuttle is standing proudly next to the mastermind Ben Weinman, while Rymer is tearing his drum kit apart with patterns even the band wouldn't imagine!

THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN took the risk of taking their sound one step further and the experiment succeeded. Very few bands have the guts to reach such far and succeed, but this quintet seems to do with ease. So, if you are looking for a dark, heavy and definitely weird Metal album, "Option Paralysis" is definitely what you are looking for. It is too early to be saying something like that, but this album just hit the top 10 for 2010!
