THE CULT OF DESTINY is a brand-new band out of Norway. Their eponymous debut album was released independently on November 27, 2020. This is classic Metal from a group of guys that have been in other bands for years. Based on the number of bands the individuals have played in (THE CARBURETORS, CHROME DIVISION, HELLISH OUTCAST, BREED to name a few), this is pretty close to a supergroup.

The record starts with the prelude, "So It Begins". We hear soldiers marching and the music sets the stage for "The Armageddon Is Here", a solid song with a good beat and a decent guitar riff. There is no keyboard player listed, but there are some well-planned intonations that add a nice layer of sound to the song. This theme of Armageddon is revisited twice more later on the disc with "Into The Armageddon" and "Exit Armageddon". This theme weaves through much of the record.

"Summon The Council" is a faster paced song than the before. These variable speeds show a variety of skill sets for each of the musicians. Hard and fast or smooth and melodic, the band never misses a beat. Whether on the quicker "Summon The Council" or the semi-power ballad "Brother", these guys are on point. The drums and bass really fill the soundscape with an old-school vibe that is reminiscent of the NWOBHM.

This is a consistently good record. With themes of war, battles and brotherhood, THE CULT OF DESTINY has put out a pretty good debut album that gits very well with the classics. They even throw in a bonus cover tune for good measure. This is the fastest I have ever heard the pseudo-disco classic "I Was Made For Loving You (KISS cover)" done. With the lyrics almost growled and the guitars tuned down and sped up, the song has never sounded better. Seriously, they make it sound much better.

All the members of this group have through either THE CARBURETORS or CHROME DIVISION. This makes a lot of sense when you hear the music and much chemistry the members have. This is not a standard debut that sounds like the band is trying to figure out who they are, these guys know. The whole album is cohesive and has a bit if a theme running throughout. While not a true concept album, it feels close. This is definitely a record worth listening to if you are a fan of classic Metal.
