Motionless
The Compromise

THE COMPROMISE is an Alternative Rock band from Torino, Italy. Having recently solidified their line-up and record label, the band has released their first EP here called "Motionless." The album contains six tracks. A soft, melodious piano in the instrumental opener "Too Recurrent" sets the tone, carrying into the next track entitled "To Be Covered." It is swift, upbeat Rock, focusing on the main riff, with that clearly heard Alternative sound that heavily peppered the music scene in the 1990's. Vocally it is right in line as well, with emotional twists and turns, and the usual chagrin of the style. A wide chorus drives home the point. "By Your Side" is the third track. It stays well within the style boundaries but offers a little more memorable moments in the melody. Though not my usual seeking, it's a well done, pleasing song.
"Counting Stones" is a soft, gentle easy listening tune, where the emotional transfer is strongest coming into the chorus. The chanted vocals in the bridge area offer some variation to the song. Track five, "Between the Lines" is mostly a fast moving number that features some suspension of instrumentation to accent the times when the guitar and voice are strongest. There is still that air of despair that generally permeated this kind of music. Closing the album is the title track, "Motionless." It opens with energy and then settles into a slow melody in the verses. Overall it was somewhat difficult to complete a review of essentially only five tracks, though I did get a sense of what the band was looking for in terms of developing their sound. Fans of the style should find the music to their liking. There were some lasting moments that I enjoyed, but some of it was fairly blurry in terms of riffs and melodies that I have heard before.
