The Choir Of Vengeance - The Choir Of Vengeance album cover

Formed in 1991 THE CHOIR OF VENGEANCE only released one self titled album. The album itself though, has withstood the sands of time and is just as great to this day. The black metal band also has hints of death metal throughout the album which was definitely ahead of it's time. We start off with "Frozen Valley" which kicks in like a boot to the teeth. Between Rickard Martinsson on vocals and being one of two guitarists, the other being Lars Tängmark, this is an epic beginning. The drumming is absolutely fantastic thanks to  Karsten Larsson and the bassist Magnus Linhardt is a beast.

"Warlock" is next up on the list and doesn't disappoint in the slightest. This is one of the heaviest old school Black Metal songs I have personally ever heard. I am honestly surprised this band didn't rise to the levels of fame like other from this time have. "Eternal" sounds like you got thrust straight into the pits of hell and Satan immediately started burning your soul. It's dark, angry and very energetic. I really wish the band would get back together and write another album.

"Premonition" is pretty intense and continues this perilous journey through the depths of the underworld. I am pretty sure I am going to need to call a priest after finishing this album, I can already feel my eyes rolling completely into the back of my head. "Crown of Flames" which is their longest song, is exactly what envision when I hear the term Black Metal. Not only is it written wonderfully, but it has an atmospheric feel to it. "The Valley" was kind of hard to hear and understand other than the vocals but it was pretty good.

"To Seek and to Find" is the most epic sounding of the album even though the recording quality isn't as up to par as most of the album. I am guessing that the last two songs were off a demo that they have added to the album. "With Eyes from the Sky" is the final song which again I guess is from a demo but it is pretty damn good. It will get your blood pumping just as well as any other song on the album. All in all the album is actually really good for the age it is. Good work guys, now please write another!
