Get Damned
The Agony Scene

What do we have here? Hmm, if I am not mistaken, I had the chance to listen to some stuff from the band's debut self-titled album back in 2003 and I was not amazed at all. I would rather say that I was slightly disappointed with how common some of their compositions would be. I still can't forget their Shotgun Wedding song, which was like I was listening to an AT THE GATES classic composition. Some bands never give up on never being able to find their own sound.
Want some bio stuff? Can it be more classic than some guys from the US playing Hardcore/Metalcore and have recently signed to Century Media Records? I think we have watched this thing taking place over and over again. Oh, and let's not forget that all those bands have been born to constantly tour! Who said we want them to tour? Just for your info, they will be touring with HIMSA in 2008.
First of all, I believe that these guys need to decide what they want to play. You have to have real guts to mix different elements and in my humble opinion THE AGONY SCENE's effort to mix brutal Hardcore with melodic Death Metal/Metalcore and a bit of DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN style breaks is not really successful. I don't think that someone can listen to an album where almost every song is different from the other. I don't say that this is a bad thing, but an album must be somehow complete and the songs connected to each other. What if the production is so good and has been by Andreas Magnusson (THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER SCARLET)? Ok, the sound is really good, but I still believe that Mr. Magnusson did a better job with THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER.
If you still find interesting stuff to the "new breed of bands labels like Century Media and Metal Blade have started signing, then go and buy this album, you will love it. If you are the guy/gal that bought the latest DARKTHRONE masterpiece or is waiting for the new TESTAMENT Thrash Metal assault, then you have nothing to do with Get Damned.
