THE ABSENSE is an alternative rock band from Mantova, Italy. Not to be confused with Melodic Death Metal band The Absence. They have a variety of great influences such as Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Moby, Celtic Frost, Nirvana, and Dark Throne. They started their record career in 2000 and have five releases. They have mixed sound of alternative, post black, grunge, doom, and stoner.

I am usually a fine lover of alternative music. I've been a SMASHING PUMPKINS and SOUNDGARDEN fan since I was in elementary school. Seeing that this band was influenced by those two bands, I thought that I would enjoy this album. I however, did not. It reminded me of something my friends and I would've wrote when we were twelve years old. I immediately disliked this album with its first track. I am honestly not going to separate each track into its own review, simply because I didn't like a single one for all the same reason.

I'll start off by saying the instrumentals are so basic, lazy, and sloppy sounding that it's pretty annoying to listen to. The production isn't bad, but it sounds like the band is on a cocktail of opiates and Miller High Life. I get what this band is trying to go for, but it's not delivered well at all. I've listened to stoner, doom, grunge, and alternative my whole life and these guys may be some of the worst of that genre. I haven't listened to their previous releases, having that I just discovered this band for the sake of this review. Perhaps their previous releases are of better effort. I honestly don't care to find out. Secondly, the vocals on this album are atrocious and often accompanied by a female vocalist, who cant harmonize worth shit. The male vocalist to me, sounds like a terrible impression of Billy Corgan, while the female singer is trying to lay down some operatic vocals that are equally as bad.

Luckily this album, or EP rather is just under a half hour long with six tracks. It's not something I would recommend to anyone who is a fan of any of the above listed genres. I don't enjoy being Simon Cowell, but this is one of the worst things I've heard of any of these genres they claim to be, and bands they are inspired by.
