Triumviro
The 7th Guild

I am a fan of many musical genres within the Metal scene, but for some reason Italian Power Metal with Epic and Symphonic influences has never become one of them, even though I really liked the first few albums of RHAPSODY. As I come to listen to the music through my headphones, I realise that that is what THE 7TH GUILD is giving us on their debut album “Triumviro”, which was released on 21 February 2025 by Scarlet Records. Think a watered-down RHAPSODY combined with DRAGONFORCE at a quarter of their speed. That should give you an idea where to place this project, that was put together by SKELETOON singer Tomi Fooler. And it takes over 49 minutes to get through all the music they have produced.
Let me start by saying that the Metal evolution has passed the people in THE 7TH GUILD by without them noticing, because if you had told me that this was an old album being rereleased, I would have taken you at your word. But it isn’t, and although the production is absolutely flawless, it still sounds like a lot of those Italian Power Metal bands did in the nineties. What does p[lease me to no end is that on a number of the songs the band has decided to sing in Italian rather than continue in English. All of a sudden, the music and vocals gel together a lot more naturally, there is a much stronger cohesion. If only more bands would recognise the fact that for most it is a lot easier to properly translate their emotions from paper to a sound carrier.
As for the music, there is nothing wrong with the songs in general. Like I said, it sounds like it has all been done before. That doesn’t mean that THE 7TH GUILD haven’t done good on “Triumviro” though. On the contrary, if you are one of those who can’t get enough of this type of music, you will absolutely love this debut album to bits. I on the other hand would have liked to hear a little more variation in the songs, as to me they all feel as if they are cut from the same cloth. There just isn’t enough diversity, but then again, I am not a massive fan of Italian Power Metal with Epic and Symphonic influences. If you are, you don’t need to think twice. You can without a doubt go for “Triumviro” and hope that THE 7TH GUILD will follow this up many more times.
