Hailing from Alberta, Canada comes TESSITURA and their latest EP "Unearth the Underworld". This five track album is chock full of extremely well written metal. The vocals by Cyn Mercredi and Stephan Ceña who is also the guitarist are absolutely perfect for this band. The bassist Leillyn McColman and drummer Gord Alexander shine very bright on the album. As far as Metalcore goes, I think this is a prime example of how to do it. I am extremely excited to be writing this review so lets get started!

The first tack on the album "Wounds of the Righteous" really gets you hyped up. This song has everything from sheer heaviness to a quite beautiful harmony. The guitars on this song are on point especially. Another thing that stands out to me are the vocals which absolutely kick ass. This is a great way to start off an album and keep your audience sticking around for more. The second song is called "Bison Hat" and just like it's predecessor, it will keep you on the edge of your seat and wanting more. Again the guitars really stick out to me, as it's played really well. One thing that I can also say for this band is they don't stray far from the sound they are going for.

"Stagnant" starts off really heavy with some chugs that will get your blood pumping and then boom, a really great scream that kicks the song into full gear. This song is a little slower at first than the previous songs, yet it still comes around to some pretty heavy metal. This song will definitely make you want to get up and start headbanging around your house. "Severed Earth" really reminded me of the song "Mock the Cross" by BLOODBATH at least as far as the riff goes at the beginning. That to me is a really good thing. This song is an absolute banger and one of the best songs on the album. About two minutes in it really goes off and gets really heavy. This song honestly goes from speedier metal to down tempo on several occasions and it really works.

The final song on the album "Of the Inferno" also happens to be the longest. This song gives me a Black Metal vibe on top of being Metalcore. This is definitely my favorite song on the album. Tons of great riffs and galloping. The vocals are really on point and the drums and bass really stick out as well. I found this EP to be a very great listen. I hope to hear more in the future.
