Teras - Broken

TERAS is a 4-Piece Thrash Death Metal band from Ternat, Belgium. This is their second full-length release, 4 years after PANDORA back in 2016. The album was mastered by Alan Douches who has done some fine job throughout the years with bands like CLUTCH, NILE and MASTODON. You definitely feel at the forefront that the production value has improved immensely compared to their earlier releases.

It's a very loud and abrasive album. The guitarists do a great job and the pace of the music has really picked up since the previous release. I felt the guitarists were a bit more technical than on ''Pandora'' and they felt less caged in a sense. They took 4 years to make a follow-up and they really learned a lot in that time. The band has matured in a number of ways and it shows.

The drummer really shines on more than one song but I was really impressed by his work on ''Follow the Herd'', I really felt he really was the glue to this song and establishes the momentum of the rest of the band. He is the band member that truly impressed me the most to be perfectly honest even though you have two very capable guitarists in the band.

As for the vocalist, he sounds a bit like Devin Townsend (the STRAPPING YOUNG LAD era) mixed with Alexis Laiho from CHILDREN OF BODOM. He does not have that charisma and presence of these two vocalists but his range is quite similar. He sounds so pissed off on some songs to be honest and you can feel his rage coming through your speakers that's for sure.

Despite the fact that the album is only 38 minutes long, I must say that it can become quite tedious. They are a very noisy band and there is a lot happening at the same time and the listener might feel overwhelmed, even before that running time ends. It's a very intense album and it really has its moments. It won't reinvent the wheel but it's a big step in the right direction for such a young band. The hooks are on point and the vocals sync very well with the rest of the instruments. You can safely see that the band has grown a lot and are really discovering their potential and their sound.
