Teloch- Thus Darkness Spake album cover

The finnish Black Metal band is back with a vengeance after a 7 year absence. Many things have changed since in the genre nonetheless. Ah...good old Satanic Black Metal. Nothing gets more in the mood to break stuff than this style of music!

Anyways, I have to admit the genre is not my favorite but I always musically it was really quite beautiful. I always felt that the vocals ruin everything for me even though you can try to concentrate of the instruments, sometimes it's overwhelming like in the case of TELOCH.

I felt the music was compelling, very orchestral and sometimes pretty damn gloomy! It gives you a sort of ambiance, like something really evil is going to happen. I tend to compare this to horror movies, the ambiance is what gets you in the feels. But if the final punchline in a movie is horrible, it ruins the rest of the movie unfortunately. I really loved the music on this album and I also hate to admit it but the production values were pretty good as well for a Black Metal band.

I also felt the the vocalist was straining his voice a bit too much and it quite raspy. Take a breath man! Sometimes I feel like I am listening to someone who is choking an animal or something along those lines! It's more like a lamentation that anything else. Like if you stubbed your toe in the middle of the night on the night stand! I tried my best to concentrate on the elements of the band. The guitar work is pretty standard and I believe the Bass was really missing. It felt it was left off and was put on the backburner. The drums are fine, nothing groundbreaking but they really fit well with most of the songs.

They don't reinvent the wheel but it's good enough with you really enjoy the genre.
