Emotions Revealed

I was never a huge fan for gothic metal / rock. Though I am always interested in good female voices, no mater if they are operatic or classic metal ones, this genre seemed too theatrical for my taste. Sylver Myst didn't manage to change my point of view with their debut album.
Emotions Revealed contains all the elements that craft a good atmospheric / gothic metal album. For starters the band has indeed a quite talented singer - Marjolein Husken. Her voice is damn good and manages to attract the listeners attention with ease. What else? Well distorted, yet not so heavy, guitars and a lot lot lot lot of keyboards. And here's my main objection about this album. The dude that handles the keyboards and all the electronic parts has some really good ideas in mind. However the keyboards are WAY in front in the final mix causing an eye-poking effect on who's who in this band. Sorry but my idea of a metal album does not include a sea of keyboards.
Emotions Revealed has some highs and lows. The album manages to keep a steady pace in quality through its duration, but without having a track that can make the difference, and no mater if the band has managed to tour so far with many important names of the scene they represent, I find it hard to believe this one will have a better luck than the majority of such releases.
