Syk - I-Optikon album cover

SYK hails from Italy and was founded in January of the year 2014. The cover art was done by Olivier De Sagazan. They have one full length album before this one and it was called "Atoma""I-Optikon" is released by Housecore Records, runs at a length of about thirty-five minutes, and was produced by Phil Anselmo.

There is just something about the way Dalila screams/yells. In "I-Optikon", that was my first impression. It's as though she is screaming to the universe, no, it is as though you are brought into another universe by her screams. It's as though her screams have carried the whole of SYK's universe right to our ears. I felt like I was front seat to something my ears had never experienced before and I didn't know if I liked it or not. I know I didn't hate it, but, I also knew it wasn't processing as quickly as other music I had heard. It was a lot to take in. Odd time signatures they definitely didn't lack. In "Sinomi", the beginning painted a picture of something that could be used on stage in a dramatic performance for a play of some sorts. It also kind of reminded me of poetry on stage with dark music as the canvas. "Absense" has a constant beat change but as the beat changes so does Dalila's vocals. She goes back and forth from yelling to singing, which, my ears really enjoyed.

I-Optikon surely was a different sound. Nothing I had heard before. It took a bit to warm up to but that was because it doesn't follow the usual time measures that most music does. In that sense, it made it original, new, and something that definitely takes time to process. It is extreme music that you will either, like extremely or hate extremely.  I really enjoyed this new extreme experience that was presented to me and, like the cover art, it blew my mind.
