Sweet Sybil - Sweet Sybil album cover

A late 80's glam band with a couple of songs and a dream to become famous. A band that never managed to record an album due to their split-up in 1992 because of the upcoming Grunge scene. What a classic scenario...

SWEET SYBIL from Chicago were formed back in 1988 under the name FONTALIS, that lasted only for a little while. They had written over 10 songs back then including "#69" and "Sweet Sybil" (which later became their name) and they also recorded a demo. During that time they opened for big bands such as EXTREME, ENUFF Z'NUFF and ALICE IN CHAINS and they also gave their own shows at famous Chicago haunts. They also recorded an EP that had great success on two continents and they generally gained national attention. Unfortunately, they didn't manage to record other stuff due to the rise of the Grunge scene and after a while they split up.

Generally "Sweet Sybil" is a pretty enjoyable album. From the very first notes of "Remember When" 'till the end I can't say that I found a song that I could call boring. "Remember When", "Downtown Suicide", "Burning House" and "Alone With You" are to me the best songs for this album. I also have to mention that Sami S.' s voice is pretty interesting and much different from the classic voices of this genre, and this is what makes this album more interesting. The cover of the CD is pretty nice and generally I can say that they have done a good job.

Overall, I can't say that this album is something special but definitely is a worth-listening-to release if you're into this genre. Just give it a try.
