It's always fun to be able to listen to different genres for Metal Temple. We definitely deliver on all fronts and there is something for everyone. This is the first release by the Swedish AOR band. They are longstanding veterans (mixed with some really talented your musicians) that decided that it was time to get something done. I think it's the second time I review a band from AOR Heaven Records. The name says it all pretty much. So let's see what we got here.
The first thing that caught my eye is the sub-par production value. I don't know where they mixed this album but it sounds amateur. At times the keyboards just bury the guitar sound and it's pretty overwhelming. When I thought I was getting a solid guitar solo, the keyboards in the background takes all the place. I thought the production on the first song was ok at best but the rest was underwhelming at best. They may have used a rookie producer so that may not have helped out the overall quality of the album itself. The first single off of this album is ''Fire In Your Eyes''. They made a videoclip and it's pretty terrible to be honest. There is no excitement, no energy from the band. It's pretty much a very basic videoclip, very mundane and probably didn't cost a whole lot. I thought it was pretty pointless to have a videoclip with nothing but the band playing with a severe lack of intensity.
The vocals has his moments. At times it really gets on the nerves and sometimes he does a good show, not great but does a decent job especially on ''Keep the Fire Burning'' and the opening track as well. As for the rest of the album, he pretty bored me. There is a lack of passion in his voice that really got on my nerves. He seems like he is going through the motions. No song on the album really stands out in my mind, I listened to the album more than once and I have trouble remembering riffs and solid parts of any song off of this release. It's not the type of album you really want to listen again.
At times it sounds like a pale copy of JOURNEY but a tad heavier and at times he sounds like any boring Adult Oriented Rock band you can listen to on most radio stations throughout the world. It's not gonna reinvent the style and it's a pale copy of what has been done beforehand. When I listen to an album, I want it to grab me by the head and don't let go, get something to put my teeth into. They didn't capture my interest at all and it was a painstaking task to be able to listen to this album more than once. I wanted to be certain to grasp a proper opinion about the whole album. I am not judgemental and I will review any style, whatever it is and I'll review it with an open mind. I felt this album was rushed, the bad production does hurt the overall value of the album and that sure as hell didn't help out.
It's pretty basic Melodic Rock, nothing we haven't heard before, that I'll grant you. They struggle to be original and they seem to be stuck in the same pattern of the genre. I mean even the riffs weren't really original and the singer lacks the quality of a band of the style. You need a very strong singer, hell, it would help out! I mean, look, if you have a great singer, the audience will get enthralled with him and pay less attention to the music itself. Overall, an underwhelming release and I was disappointed with low production values and the overall mind-numbness of their first release.
