Svartkonst - Devil's Blood album cover

SVARTKONST is a one man Blackened Death Metal band from Sweden. Originally called WARG Rickard changed the band name in 2012. The first track on "Devil's Blood" is "Black Light Burning". It's one of my favorites on the album by far. It is a perfect blend of Black and Death Metal. This one really tears it the fuck up! I believe Rickard has something really going here. The second song is "The Drought" which has the same mechanics as the first track, but this one has a bit of a Doom feel as well. It is really well composed and it is a banger for real. Track three is "Merciless Death" which is the longest song on the album at seven minutes and seven seconds long. This song is a masterpiece from the beginning to the end. It kinda reminds me a little of MY DYING BRIDE meets EMPEROR with a hint of BLOODBATH. So so far not a bad beginning to the album at all.

The fourth track is "Devil's Blood" and it fits the album perfectly. It's aggressive yet upbeat and I find it truly amazing. Track five "Taste of Bitterness" is a prime example of what Blackened Death Metal should sound like. It's in your face with the Death Metal and brooding with the Black Metal. By far one of the best songs on the album. And we are only halfway through this wondrous selection of music. "Flames of Salvation" starts off with a bang. I really feel like Rickard's vocals shine through on this track. It's as if he is trying to summon Satan right into your ears and thousands of demons are beating on your ear drums. It is definitely one of my favorites as well. "I Am Nothing" comes in at track seven and spares no expense. It's melodic as well as brutal. The guitar work is especially phenomenal on "I Am Nothing".

Up next we have "Ashen Hunger" which is another song that has a slight Doom feel to it. And is another prime example of Blackened Death Metal. This song is perfect in every way from start to finish. I wish more bands understood how to write this well, but I have noticed that quite a few one man bands sound much better than bands with multiple members. "Cloven Hoof" is another banger and closer to the end of the song it has really awesome background noises. The drums and guitars on this one are really well constructed. The final song on "Devil's Blood" is "En Sten Foll Fran Mitt Brost" and its a beautiful instrumental and a great ending to such an amazing album. I really enjoyed every minute of it. I hope to hear more from Svartkonst in the future. I highly recommend "Devil's Blood" to everyone so go pick it up as soon as you can!
