Suspiria - Psychologically Impaled album cover

I wish I could say that this is a "new" release by the legendary SUSPIRIA, and I also wish I could say that they have actually released something, but sadly it is only a brand new compilation of their older material. For those unfamiliar with the band, SUSPIRIA were a Crystal Lake, Illinois (US) based Death Metal band who were active from 1990 until 1991, following which they changed their name to CORPORAL DECAY for a while and then remained active again from 1991 until 1994. This offering was released through Divebomb Records on February 10th, 2017, and was limited to 500 CD. This "compilation" has 14 tracks, and the first 8 are studio tracks, whilst songs from 8 to 14 are live tracks.

The compilation consists of various material that was picked from the early demo days of the band; including their first demo "Divinely Impaled" from 1991, and "Psychological Inertia" from 1993. It took someone 24 years to re-release these masterpieces, which is a shame. This was my first introduction to this band, but I had a feeling that I was going to hear a lot of Thrash influences - being that this band was formed and was active during the 90's, a time when these two genres dominated. "Desolated by Theory" instantly starts with wild, shredding and brutal riffs of malevolent Thrash-y Death Metal with a brutal vocal style -which reminded me quite a lot of CANCER. "Granted Elation" picks up at the same style the first song left off, with plenty of guitar riffs (none were spared).

What I really like about this re-release is the fact that it doesn't sound shitty! I mean, this is who someone took the time to re-release something and they actually did it really well! Finally! A lot of classical vocal types can be heard throughout the second song, which leaves no doubt that you're blasting a classic band from the underground sea of Metal.

It is a shame that this band was active for such a short time, but nonetheless, they left us some really good music to enjoy, so remind yourselves to check this out.
