Susperia - We Are The Ones album cover

Norwegian band SUSPERIA have had, amazingly, the same line up ever since their inception in 1999. So to celebrate 10 years of releases, they have put out this album of remastered demos, orchestral versions of songs and a couple of new tracks, including a Eurovision contest entry!

So, I shall be logical, and start with the new songs. SUSPERIA have evolved from their roots in Black / Thrash Metal, to become more focused on the Thrash aspect, and maybe even a bit of Power Metal in there. But the two new songs, "We Are The Ones" and "Nothing Remains" are brilliant. The first track I mentioned is hopefully a taste of what the band have got to offer us on their next full album, a melodic and heavy masterpiece, with an awesome symphonic accompaniment. The second track is another Melodic song, and I can't see why it shouldn't represent Norway excellently at the Eurovision song contest. The orchestral versions of some of their classic tracks are really great as well. Much Like METALLICA's "S&M", the orchestra adds a whole new level to the songs and lets you appreciate them in a different way.

The demos are a good way for longtime fans to join in the celebrations too, for they showcase SUSPERIA'S early style, when they were leaning more towards the Black Metal side of things. The recordings sound great, as they have been remastered. But really, every song on "We Are The Ones" sounds really good, the production values being very high on the first five tracks, and as high as they can be on remastered demos. The vocals are very clear, and the instruments sound very crisp. If this is any indication of what SUSPERIA's next release is going to be like, it'll be very good indeed.

Overall, I think this is an excellent celebration for a band that definitely deserves it. Sure to please old and new fans alike and it may even prove a good starting point for people who want to get a feel for what the band are like. Definitely one to check out.
