From their album "You Can't Stop Me," SUICIDE SILENCE have released their new EP "Sacred Words" featuring 3 versions of the song "Sacred Words" as well as 2 live versions of other songs off the album. For those fans of the band who may have seen them with Mitch, but have yet to see them with Eddie this will help you understand the difference in their vocals live. For those who have heard Eddie on record but not live yet, his vocal range is much greater live than it is on album.
Opening the album is the album version of "Sacred Words," which stands as my favourite song off the album, following a well paced tune to lyrics that generally mean something along with Eddie's strong vocals. The song is a stand against religion in a way, the lyrics are about waiting for Gods "sacred words" to help you through life. About 3/4 of the way through the song when Eddie is screaming "it's not you it's me" is the perfect display of how low and how high Eddie's vocals can be.
Tracks two through four are live, "Inherit The Crown," which opens the latest SUICIDE SILENCE album, shows you how much higher Eddie's vocals go live. This can be a turn off to some, they are quite ear piercing sometimes, but it shows Eddie at his best live. "Cease To Exist" and "Sacred Words" live are pretty much the same idea, same sound except have a larger range in Eddie's vocals.
To close the album is a remix of "Sacred Words" which isn't really my thing, This is the second time the band has done a remix with songs off this album and neither one of them are very appealing to me, the mix between electronics and the SUICIDE SILENCE sound doesn't do it any justice and should be left alone. An instrumental version is also there which is cool, instrumentals are good for stuff like working out where you just need background noise and not want to focus and the instrumentals to "Sacred Words" are great on top of that.
All in all, great EP gives an idea of everything that SUICIDE SILENCE has to offer with their latest release but they should leave remixes alone, please.
